The government has a strict zero-tolerance policy for rape and violence against women and children, said Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, at the Ministry of Home Affairs, he reaffirmed that law enforcement agencies have been directed to take a firm stance against all crimes, including rape.
“All incidents of violence against women must be investigated, and reports must be submitted to the court,” he said, adding that those involved in recent rape cases will be brought to justice and face the highest punishment.
He emphasized that women must be able to move freely and carry out their responsibilities without fear. Anyone obstructing or committing violence against them will face strict legal action without exception.
The home adviser also called for a nationwide awareness campaign against rape and confirmed that law enforcement officers would not tolerate any attacks against them. To maintain law and order during Ramadan, checkpoints have been set up across Dhaka, with additional security measures in place for Eid.
