Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nasimul Gani, has said that steps are being taken to address the rising costs of air tickets and ensure that prices align with those in other countries.
Discussions are being held with General Sales Agents (GSAs) of various airlines to explore possible solutions rather than placing sole blame on them for the price surge.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday evening at the Secretariat, ahead of a hearing by the investigative committee on airfare hikes and black-market activities, Nasimul Gani emphasized the need to investigate the causes of these rising costs.
He acknowledged that passengers traveling from Bangladesh to the Middle East face particularly high ticket prices and that certain rules and regulations are being followed while others are not. Additionally, some individuals are exploiting the system, which necessitates further inquiry.
The senior secretary highlighted that the investigation aims to gather insights from GSAs to understand industry challenges and explore solutions. The goal is to ensure that findings from the inquiry lead to effective measures benefiting travelers.
Clarifying the scope of the initiative, he noted that the government is not setting airfare prices but is solely conducting an investigation. The Chief Advisor’s Office assigned this responsibility, prompting the current discussions and hearings.
