DCs instructed to stay vigilant on looted weapons, ammo

Deputy Commissioners (DCs) have been directed to remain alert regarding the 6,000 weapons and 600,000 rounds of ammunition looted from various police stations since August 5.

While security forces have recovered a significant portion, 1,400 weapons and 250,000 rounds of ammunition remain missing, raising concerns about potential threats to national stability.

On the final day of the Deputy Commissioner Conference, a meeting was held between DCs and the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Division. Lieutenant General (Retd) Abdul Hafiz, special assistant to the chief adviser on Defence and National Unity Affairs, emphasized the need for strict monitoring to prevent these weapons from falling into the hands of terrorists.

He further said that the allies of the Awami League are attempting to destabilize the country, and DCs must take a firm stance to counter such threats. Alongside this, they were instructed to focus on maintaining law and order, ensuring market stability during Ramadan, and addressing electricity shortages.

To support these efforts, the military has assured full cooperation, with armed forces personnel set to work alongside civilian authorities for as long as needed to restore peace.
