Protesting students declare indefinite shutdown of Titumir College

Protesting students have declared an indefinite shutdown of Government Titumir College, demanding its transformation into a university. They have also announced an 11-hour blockade in support of their one-point demand.

The announcement was made at a press conference in front of the college’s main gate at around 11pm on Sunday.

According to the declaration, the shutdown will take effect from Monday morning, suspending all academic and administrative activities indefinitely. Additionally, students have announced a blockade from 11am to 10pm, affecting Amtoli, Mohakhali, and Gulshan Link Road.

On behalf of the protesting students, Mahmudul Hasan Mukta, an adviser to the Titumir Unity group, said: “From Monday, classes, exams, and even administrative activities will be halted. No one will be allowed to enter Titumir until our demand is met.”

At the press conference, the students also placed three demands:

1. Titumir College must be recognized as a university, and an academic calendar must be published.
2. The education adviser must withdraw his statement.
3. An investigation must be conducted into the law adviser’s obstruction of the Titumir Commission. The law adviser must also issue a public apology.

However, the protesting students clarified that Saraswati Puja activities at the college would continue as planned on Monday.
