With train services halted due to the railway running staff’s strike, the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has introduced bus services on key routes for passengers with advance train tickets.
Railway ministry spokesperson Rezaul Karim Siddiqui announced the measure on Tuesday, confirming that passengers from Dhaka and Airport railway stations to Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna, Comilla, Bogra, and Mymensingh can use their train tickets for BRTC buses.
The service is also available for travelers heading to Dhaka from these locations. It will continue until further notice.
Meanwhile, the railway strike has brought train operations nationwide to a standstill, leaving ticket counters closed and stations deserted. Many passengers at Kamalapur Railway station arrived before dawn, only to find trains non-operational, while some sought ticket refunds.
The strike began at midnight on Tuesday, as the Bangladesh Railway Running Staff and Workers' Association demanded pension and benefits based on running allowances, along with other entitlements.
