A protest by trainee doctors at Shahbagh intersection has brought traffic to a standstill in central Dhaka, leaving thousands of commuters stranded and frustrated.
Major roads connecting key areas like Science Lab, Motijheel, and Farmgate have been completely closed since Sunday afternoon, forcing vehicles to take alternative routes with significantly slowed movement.
The resulting gridlock has caused immense suffering for city residents, with some reporting hours-long delays.
The blockade, organized by trainee doctors demanding an increase in their monthly allowance from Tk25,000 to Tk50,000, began around 1pm.
While protesters insist they would not move without assurances from the health adviser, the prolonged disruption has exacerbated the daily struggles of commuters in one of Dhaka's busiest areas.
