St Gregory High School and College in Old Dhaka has announced an indefinite closure following an attack and vandalization at the educational institution.
The lottery admission for the 2025 nursery and first-grade classes has also been cancelled.
In two separate notices issued on Monday (November 25), the school authorities confirmed the suspension of all classes, examinations, and administrative activities for the Morning Shift, Day Shift, and College.
Operations will remain halted until further notice, with activities set to resume once the situation normalizes, it said.
The unrest escalated on Sunday, when protests against an attack at another Old Dhaka school led to an attack on St Gregory. The attackers vandalized classrooms, teachers' rooms, and the canteen.
The closures follow similar decisions at Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, which have also been closed amidst rising tensions.
On Sunday, students of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College vandalized and looted Dhaka National Medical College and Shaheed Suhrawardy College, alleging the wrongful death of a student, Avijit Hawlader, due to medical negligence.
The following day, around noon, hundreds of students from Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul College retaliated with an attack on Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College, causing significant damage.
