A fire broke out in the basement of a building named Manoshi Plaza in the capital's Farmgate.
Five Fire Service and Civil Defence units are working to control the fire.
Fire service Control Room Duty Officer Lima Khanam confirmed the matter on Saturday.
She said: "The fire broke out in the basement of a building named Manoshi Plaza in Farmgate around 9:20am. On information, five units of fire service rushed to the spot. They are working to control the fire. Firefighting is being delayed due to a lot of smoke.
Preliminary reports suggest that there are a large number of Mercantile Bank
documents in the basement, and these are burning in the fire. The cause of the fire is still unknown. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far, she added.
