Traffic chaos in Dhaka as protesters demand Maulana Saad’s participation in Ijtema

A faction of Tablighi Jamaat, led by supporters of Indian Maulana Saad, staged a protest in front of Kakrail Mosque on Tuesday morning, causing severe traffic congestion in the area

Thousands of people gathered outside the mosque and chanted slogans demanding Maulana Saad to be allowed to attend the Bishwa Ijtema.

It is reported that the first phase of the Bishwa Ijtema will take place from January 31 to February 2, and the second phase from February 7 to 9 next year. Maulana Saad's followers wish for his presence during the second phase.

In the morning, when the protesters attempted to march towards the residence of the chief adviser to press their demand, they were blocked by police and took position on the streets, causing significant traffic congestion..

One Saad supporter at the protest stated: "We have spoken to the security forces. A delegation of 10 members from our group will meet the chief adviser shortly."

Addressing the security measures around the chief adviser's residence, Deputy Police Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman of the Media and Public Relations Division on DMP said: "The area, including the chief adviser's residence, houses many important state officials. Naturally, heightened security measures are in place. Additionally, law enforcement agencies are working to prevent any violence amid the protests by Maulana Saad’s supporters."
