Yunus: Each uprising martyr’s family to receive 30L

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has said the family of each person martyred during the July-August uprising will receive Tk30 lakh from the government, reiterating that all such will be rehabilitated – no one will be left out.

Additionally, the government would bear the full cost of medical treatment for all injured individuals, Yunus said in his address to the nation on Sunday to mark 100 days of governance.

“A comprehensive list has been prepared under the leadership of the health ministry to ensure long-term and expensive treatments for the injured and care for the families of the martyrs. Each martyr's family is being provided with Tk30 lakh from the government.

“For those who lost their eyesight due to bullet injuries, arrangements have been made to import corneas from Nepal for treatment. Besides, those requiring it are being sent abroad for medical care at government expense.”

He said no martyrs or injured students and workers from the uprising would be excluded from the medical and rehabilitation plan. “This is a commitment of the interim government.”

“To preserve the memory of the martyrs of this mass uprising, the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation has begun its work strongly. The government has provided a grant of Tk100 crore to this foundation.”

Moreover, a proposal for an allocation of $5 million had been submitted to the World Bank through the Economic Relations Division on behalf of the Ministry of Social Welfare to ensure the best possible rehabilitation for the families of the martyrs of the uprising and quality medical treatment for the injured, Yunus added.
