Eggs will be sold at an affordable price in 13 locations of the two city corporations of Dhaka.
This sale will begin on Sunday.
Mohammad Alim Akhtar Khan, Director General of the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection, announced this on Saturday while participating in a shadow parliament discussion at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) under the topic "The market instability caused by syndicates created by the past government."
Alim Akhtar Khan said the initiative will take place at seven locations in the Dhaka South City Corporation and six locations in the Dhaka North City Corporation.
He expressed hope that consumers would be able to purchase eggs at reasonable prices through this initiative.
He also expressed hope that market control would be maintained during the upcoming Ramadan.
He emphasized that the government's good governance is necessary to break the market syndicates.
According to the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, eggs will be supplied daily at 13 centers—six in the Dhaka North City Corporation and seven in the Dhaka South City Corporation.
These locations include Tejgaon Market, Mirpur-1, Mirpur-10, Mohammadpur Krishi Market, Sadeq Khan Krishi Market (Mohammadpur), and Uttara-10 (Khamarpara Road) in the North, and Kaptan Bazaar, New Market, Khilgaon, Jorain, Konapara Sarulia, Shonir Akhra, and Chittagong Road in the South.
A total of two million eggs will be supplied daily through producers, agents, or dealers for the consumers.
The two city corporations will be responsible for the overall management of this initiative.
Among these, Tejgaon Market and Kaptan Market will receive 650,000 eggs each, totaling 1.3 million eggs, while the remaining 11 markets will receive a total of 700,000 eggs, distributed proportionally for sale.
