Around ten participants have become seriously ill during the second day a hunger strike, enforced by job seekers demanding the government to issue a prompt notification extending the maximum age for applying to government jobs to 35 years.
Several protesters were seen receiving saline at the National Museum area in Shahbag around 9pm on Tuesday.
The protesters stated that they would continue their hunger strike until an official announcement is made.
Rubel Rana, a participant in the movement, mentioned that they began their hunger strike on Monday night.
"Now, several of us have fallen ill. We have provided initial treatment to around ten individuals at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). There are still a few here receiving saline while continuing the strike," he said.
He added: "We had hoped that someone from the authorities would come and promise to fulfill our demands today. Unfortunately, no one has even contacted us on behalf of the state."
Manjurul Islam, who is participating in the hunger strike while receiving saline, stated: "We will continue our protest until our demands are met. We hope the government will fulfill our demands by issuing an announcement by tomorrow. The final phase of our peaceful movement is the hunger strike. If our demands are not met, and violence ensues, it will not be our fault."
The protesters began their sit-in at 11am on Monday, demanding an immediate notification raising the age limit for government job applications to 35 years.
Later, at 7pm on Monday, 25 participants donned burial shrouds and began their hunger strike, continuing their protest overnight at Shahbagh.
