Govt vows action against those involved in shrine attacks

The interim government has strongly condemned the recent hate speech and attacks on religious and cultural sites, including Sufi shrines, over the past few days.

In a press release issued by the chief advisor’s office on Saturday, the government assured that those responsible for the attacks would face legal action.

"Strong legal measures will be taken against the miscreants involved in these incidents," the statement said.

Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take adequate steps to protect religious shrines and cultural heritage sites across the country.

"Bangladesh has been a land of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence of diverse beliefs for thousands of years. We want to make it clear that we will continue to uphold this harmony. Any attempts to disrupt religious or cultural tolerance will be met with strong action, without discrimination," the statement added.
