The members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia from Mohakhali area in the capital.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous confirmed the news on Wednesday night.
Asaduzzaman has been taken to Khilgaon police station, he said.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB conducted a drive near the Mohakhali flyover area and arrested him around 11pm. Asaduzzaman is wanted in a case filed with the police station, said the RAB official.
Munim said Asaduzzaman would be handed over to the DMP detective branch after further legal processes.
On September 3, a case was filed against 62 people including current and former police officers for the killing of Nuruzzaman Jony, former general secretary of the Khilgaon Thana unit Chhatra Dal, in police custody in 2015.
Asaduzzaman Mia was made one of the accused in the case.
