A group of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company officials and employees held a protest in front of Petrobangla’s Petro Centre at Karwan Bazar in Dhaka on Tuesday, protesting the appointment of the company’s new managing director.
Some Petrobangla officials, on condition of anonymity, claimed the protesters vandalized the reception door’s glass on the ground floor. After an hour, they went to the Titas Gas office.
The contract of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL) Managing Director Engineer Harunur Rashid Mollah expired on August 21.
On September 9, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources issued a notification cancelling the contract without extending the period.
Later, Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL) Managing Director Shahnewaz Parvez was given the responsibility of managing director of Titas Gas.
Before his tenure as the GTCL MD, he was the GM of Petrobangla.
The disgruntled officers and employees demand that the MD should be appointed from among the officers at Titas.
An official from Petrobangla, who did not wish to give their name, said: “Titas's personnel are insisting that their MD should be appointed from among their officers. However, no one from Titas Gas is in the top 50-60 in Petrobangla's seniority list, and many have allegations of corruption against them. For this reason, an officer from outside Titas, who has no allegations of corruption, has been appointed to the position.”
