The Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance (BNHGA) presented its eight demands at a press conference at the Dhaka University Journalists Association.
The press briefing was chaired by the organization's president, Prabir Ranjan Halder, with General Secretary Dr Mrittunjoy Kumar Roy outlining the demands.
The BNHGA made these demands in response to “recent incidents of attacks, vandalism, arson, looting, murder, injuries and the molestation of women, affecting religious minorities in 44 districts across the country” following the fall of the Awami League government after Sheikh Hasina's resignation as prime minister.
Its demands are: compensation for the families of those killed, injured or affected, including those missing among religious minorities; establishment of a ministry of minority development; enactment of a minority protection law and the creation of a special tribunal for justice; three official holidays for Durga Puja; restitution of expropriated devotional properties, enactment of conservation laws and restoration of temples in their respective areas; establishment of model temples in all 64 districts and a Vedic university; and conversion of the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust into a foundation, modernization of the Sanskrit and Pali Education Board, and a public holiday for Ratha Yatra.
Several other members of the organization were also in attendance.
