Bank accounts of Helal Uddin, Sheikh Tonmoy frozen

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered to freeze the bank accounts of Sheikh Helal Uddin, a former member of parliament and cousin of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, along with those of his son Sheikh Tonmoy also a former member of parliament. 

Additionally, BFIU has frozen the bank transactions of businesses owned by them.

BFIU issued the instructions to banks and financial institutions across the country on Monday.

The directive stated that the bank accounts of Sheikh Helal Uddin, his wife Rupa Chowdhury, and his son Sheikh Tonmoy, as well as those of their businesses, have been frozen. 

Banks have been requested to submit account-related information and other specified data within five working days from the date of the letter's issuance.
