Gopalganj, Barguna Awami League men demand return of Hasina

Awami League supporters of Barguna and Gopalganj on Saturday took to the streets to bring former prime minister Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh.

Barguna District Awami League held a protest march and rally demanding the return of Sheikh Hasina to the country, protesting ongoing violence, and calling for fair elections through a democratic process.

In Gopalganj’s Kotalipara upazila, Awami League activists, affiliate organizations, freedom fighters, and people tied funeral cloths around their heads and took an oath demanding the return of Sheikh Hasina.

Over a hundred thousand people gathered for the event.

District Awami League President Mahbub Ali Khan said: "As long as Bangabandhu's daughter, Sheikh Hasina, does not return to the country, our struggle will continue. We are on the streets and will stay on the streets."

Encouraging the leaders and activists, he said: "None of you should lose morale. Our beloved leader will soon return and take charge of this party."

Residents from Dhara Basail, Kalabari, and Lakhipar in Kotalipara upazila presented at the time.

Kotalipara of Gopalganj is Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's constituency. She was elected MP eight times from this seat.
She served as the prime minister five times and the opposition leader three times.

She has significantly developed her electoral area and created employment opportunities.

Sheikh Hasina fled the country on Monday in face of the protests of students and general people.

Protests to bring back Hasina began last Tuesday in Gopalganj following the burning of the house at 32 Dhanmondi. On that day, the district Awami League organized a protest march in the city.
