Khulna Awami League leaders go into hiding

Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government, the top leaders of the party and its affiliated organizations in Khulna have gone into hiding. 

This group includes the Khulna City Corporation mayor and four former MPs, who have turned off their mobile phones and are not found at their homes. 

Activists remain anxious, and many do not stay at home at night due to fears of attacks.

Khulna was plagued by attacks, vandalism, arson, and looting. Journalists have also been targeted. Khulna Press Club was vandalized and set on fire.

Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque’s home was attacked and vandalized twice by miscreants on Sunday. 

He left home early the following day, and his current whereabouts are unknown.

The mobile phone number of Nani Gopal Mandal, a former MP of Khulna-1 constituency, has been switched off. Locals said he was not at home in Ramnagar village of Dakop upazila.

Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel, a cousin of Sheikh Hasina, a former MP from Khulna-2 constituency, lives on Sher-e-Bangla Road in the city.

The house, known as Sheikh Bari, was attacked several times on Sunday and Monday, vandalized and set on fire. 

Jewel and his three brothers have not been in the house since then. 

On Monday, the office of former MP of Khulna-3 constituency SM Kamal Hossain in the Khalishpur area was vandalized. Locals do not know where he is.

Narayon Chandra Chanda fled the area after his house was set on fire on Monday.

Meanwhile, Khulna Zila Parishad Chairman Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid is sick. 
He is said to be at home. 

The Zila Parishad building was set on fire on Tuesday night.

The house of Sujit Kumar Adhikari, general secretary of the district Awami League, came under attack. 

On Sunday, Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary MDA Babul Rana was beaten and injured by protesters in the party office premises. He is now in Dhaka for better treatment. 

On Monday, his house on Tank Road in the city was attacked and vandalized. 

Journos attacked

Meanwhile, some journalists were attacked, and their homes were vandalized and looted. The Khulna Press Club has also been vandalized, set on fire, and looted.

On Sunday, while working, Abu Hena Mostafa Jamal Poplu of Machranga TV had his motorcycle vandalized. Machranga TV's camera was vandalized, and cameraman Md Shahjalal Molla Milon was beaten.

Probir Kumar Biswas, a correspondent for Jamuna TV in Khulna, had his motorcycle burned.

On Tuesday, the home of SM Moniruzzaman (Mir Monir), a correspondent for RTV in Khulna, was attacked and vandalized.

Md Babul Akhtar's private car from Asian TV was vandalized.

On Tuesday, M Wahiduzzaman, the vice president of the BL College Chhatra League, was severely beaten.

The office of Daily Khulna was attacked, vandalized, and looted on the on Tuesday night.

Amjad Ali Liton, a correspondent for Ananda TV in Khulna, had his home attacked and vandalized on Monday.

On Tuesday, the office of the Daily Deshshongjog newspaper was attacked, vandalized, and looted. Jalal, a camera person for Bangla TV in Khulna, had his home extensively vandalized and looted on Monday.
