Members of the fire service, along with its volunteers, are working with students to control traffic across Bangladesh, including in Dhaka.
They were stationed at key locations across the country, including major traffic points in Dhaka, to prevent traffic disruptions caused by the absence of traffic police, according to a fire service media cell press release issued on Thursday.
It said the fire service started conducting this activity at 8am.
Director (Operation and Maintenance) Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury is overseeing this program of fire service traffic control on the instructions of Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defense Directorate Brigadier General Md Main Uddin.
Tajul said the fire service has been the people's friends in times of trouble. "With the current gap in traffic management, our members and volunteers are dedicated to filling this role."
Currently, 620 firefighters and 215 volunteers are stationed at 227 traffic points nationwide to ensure smooth traffic flow.
