Expressing solidarity with students, the teachers of Jahangirnagar University and Rajshahi University held rallies on their respective campuses on Tuesday to protest the deaths during the quota reform movement last week.
The teachers and students of various departments of Jahangirnagar University gathered at the university's Shaheed Minar at 1:30pm covering their mouths and eyes with red cloths as part of the previously announced program of the anti-discrimination student movement.
They held a silent march protesting against the disappearance, murder, torture and detention of students and ordinary people across the country.
The procession started from the university's Shaheed Minar premises. It went around the various roads of the university and ended in front of the Shaheed Monument adjacent to the old Fazilatunnessa Hall.
They observed a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of the quota movement.
Later the procession ended again with a short rally in the premises of Shaheed Minar.
In the rally, the teachers protested the killing, assault, torture and detention of students and ordinary people who were agitating for nationwide quota reforms.
Apart from this, they condemned the incident of granting remand of Arif Sohail in a false case.
Expressing solidarity with all the demands of the students centring the quota reform movement, the teachers of Rajshahi University held a procession and rally.
This program was held on the highway in front of the main gate of Rajshahi University on Tuesday afternoon under the banner of “Anti-Oppression Teachers” society'.
About 150 teachers participated in it.
Around 12:45pm on Tuesday, the teachers took out a rally in front of the Senate building of the university covering red cloths on their heads and faces.
After circling the various roads of the campus, the rally started towards the main gate of the university.
A large number of law enforcement officers were already present in front of the main gate on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway. At that time, the main gate of the university was also locked.
The police refused to open the lock when the teachers requested to open it. Later, when the security personnel appointed by the university opened the lock, the teachers started gathering in a line in front of the main gate.

The teachers urged government to end indiscriminate killing, torture and detention. They also called upon to open the university soon.
