DMP: Police to enter DU upon university administration's request

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner (Operations) Biplab Kumar Sarkar has said that the police do not take part in any activity at Dhaka University without the permission of the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University.

The permission of the VC is required to carry out police activities or actions within the university, said the DMP official on Monday afternoon while responding to journalists.

“We will talk to the university administration if they want any help from the police that will be provided."

However, even though there are no police inside Dhaka University, many police are deployed in the surrounding areas including New Market, Science Lab, and Shahbagh.

The clash between Chhatra League leaders and activists started with ordinary students around 3pm. Then both sides clashed with bricks and sticks.

At one stage of the clash, the general students dispersed.

However, there was no presence of police on the campus.

Due to the clash, the entire Dhaka University campus turned into a battleground. Several students were injured in the clash.
