2 photojournalists injured in Chhatra League-quota reformists clash at DU

Two photojournalists have been injured while covering the clash between Chhatra League and quota reform activists on the Dhaka University campus.

They were allegedly attacked by Chhatra League men near DU's VC Chattar on Monday afternoon.

The two injured are The Daily Star's Senior Photographer Prabir Das and Daily Prothom Alo's Staff Photographer Dipu Malakar.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students were injured in clashes allegedly between quota reform protesters and Dhaka University (DU) unit Chhatra League activists.

The clashes broke out after the students held a rally protesting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's remarks about their movement around 3pm.

The incidents were reported from DU’s Bijoy Ekattor Hall, VC Chattar, Nilkhet intersection, and the surrounding areas.

Students from Dhaka University and other universities and colleges across the country erupted in protest late on Sunday, sparked by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's criticism of the movement opposing the reinstatement of quotas in government jobs.

The students responding to a call from the Students Against Discrimination movement, took to the streets in a protest march at around 10:45pm.

Students from all dorms, including the women's halls, participated in the march.

Earlier in the afternoon, during a press conference at Ganabhaban regarding her visit to China, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina criticized those opposing quotas for freedom fighters' descendants.
