Met office forecasts rain across Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall across all eight divisions.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely in most places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions with heavy to very heavy falls in some places, the met office said in its forecast for the 24 hours from 9am on Thursday.

The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across the northern part of Bangladesh, while one of its associated troughs extends up to north Bay.

Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over north Bay.

The highest temperature on Wednesday was 36.6 degrees Celsius in Chuadanga and the lowest on Thursday was 24 degrees in Bandarban.

The highest rainfall in the 24 hours to 6am was 114mm in Sylhet.

The weather office said day and night temperatures may fall by 1-2 degrees.
