Heavy rain across Bangladesh is predicted to worsen the flood situation in many districts.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre reported on Friday that the water levels of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna and Ganges-Padma rivers are expected to rise over the next 48 hours.
While the water level of the Kushiyara River is decreasing, other major rivers in the northeastern region of Bangladesh are also gradually receding, a trend expected to continue for the next 24 hours.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department, in its 9am bulletin, has forecast heavy rainfall in the northern part of Bangladesh and adjoining upstream areas, with heavy rains anticipated in the northeastern and adjoining upstream regions over the next 48 hours.
The flood situation may worsen in Kurigram, Jamalpur, Gaibandha, Bogra, Sirajganj, and Tangail districts within the next 24 hours.
Overall, the flood situation is expected to remain stable in various low-lying areas of the northeast over the next 24 hours.
The country’s highest 54mm of rainfall was recorded in Chandpur in 24 hours till 6am on Friday.
