The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has begun an operation involving Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu, alias Gas Babu, one of the accused in the murder case of MP Anwarul Azim Anar, to retrieve phones thrown in a pond by Gas Babu.
The operation, led by Senior Judicial Magistrate Faruq Azam of Jhenaidah, began around 11:45am on Wednesday.
The raiding team is stationed at the pond behind Pipilika market in the Payra Chattar area of Jhenaidah city.
Gas Babu reportedly threw two mobile phones into that pond. Divers and fishermen equipped with nets are prepared to recover the devices.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Mir Abidur Rahman confirmed the operation.
On Tuesday afternoon, Gas Babu was transported from Kashimpur Jail to Jhenaidah District Jail in a prison van of Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Attaullah's court ordered a raid in Jhenaidah against Awami League leader Kazi Kamal Ahmed, alias Gas Babu.
The court also directed a magistrate-led operation to recover the three mobile phones used by Babu.
Meanwhile, DB Chief Harunor Rashid arrived in Jhenaidah at around 12pm on Wednesday to investigate the murder of MP Anwarul Azim Anar.
