Muslims across Bangladesh mark Eid-ul-Azha with devotion, sacrifice

Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated nationwide with the ritual sacrifice of animals in the name of Allah on Monday.

The festival falls on the 10th day of the Dhu al-Hijjah month in the Hizri calendar, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his beloved son, Prophet Ismail, approximately 4,500 years ago. Prophet Ismail accepted his fate to please Allah, but in His mercy, Allah substituted a ram for the sacrifice.A cow is pictured before being sacrificed on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha on Monday, June 17, 2024. To honour this historic event, Muslims across the country participated in congregational prayers and sacrificed animals in Allah's name. They also prayed for divine blessings for the nation's peace, progress and prosperity, as well as the welfare of the Muslim Ummah.

However, Eid was celebrated on Sunday in some villages of Shariatpur and Chandpur, aligning with Saudi Arabia's observance.

In Bangladesh, the main Eid congregation took place at the National Eidgah near the High Court at 7:30am. The Dhaka South City Corporation had made extensive preparations for this main congregation. Additionally, five Eid congregations were held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, with the first at 7am and subsequent ones at 8am, 9am, 10am, and 10:45am.

Law enforcement agencies implemented stringent security measures to ensure safety and order throughout the country, including Dhaka. They also facilitated the smooth movement of vehicles on highways, waterways and train routes.

State-run Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, and other TV and radio stations were broadcasting special programs for Eid-ul-Azha.

Meanwhile, Dhaka's south and north city corporations have prepared to remove sacrificial animal waste within 24 hours, requesting cooperation from city residents to assist their officials and employees in keeping the city clean.
