Year's highest temperature at 40.7°C recorded in Meherpur

Meherpur district recorded the highest temperature of this year at 40.7°C  on Wednesday.

People are experiencing blistering heat as a severe heat wave is sweeping the district.

Chuadanga Weather Observatory Centre recorded 40.7°C in Meherpur at 3pm on Wednesday, said Jaminur Rahman, in-charge of the Observatory Centre.

The situation may persist for a few more days, he said, adding that there is no possibility of rain at this moment.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chuadanga recorded the highest temperature of this year at 40.6°C.

The people of the district especially the low-income people are in dire straits due to intense heat.

Working people were seen resting under trees and in shady places hoping for some relief.

According to BMD’s weather bulletin on Wednesday morning, a severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Chuadanga and Bagerhat and a mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, the rest part of Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and it may abate from some places.

Meanwhile, rain and thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are likely at one or two places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places.

The weather may remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, it added.
