Gold price surges to record high in Bangladesh

The price of 22-carat gold hit Tk1,12,908 per bhori, the highest in the history of Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (Bajus) adjusted the gold price, attributing the increase in the global market.

The association released a statement after the standing committee on pricing and price monitoring of Bajus decided in a meeting on Wednesday.

The new price will be effective from Thursday.

According to the new prices, the price of a 21-carat gold bar has increased by Tk1,07,776 and 18-carat gold would cost Tk92,379.

The previous price of 22-carat gold ornaments was Tk1.1 lakh.

In July last year, the price of gold crossed the Tk1,00,000-mark for the first time in Bangladesh.

Gold prices have been rising for more than a year influenced by hikes in the international market and volatility in its supply in the domestic market.
