Police on Tuesday detained 35 employees of 11 eateries in the capital’s Mohammadpur area for using gas cylinders without maintaining safety protocols.
The raids were carried out in Geneva Camp, Ring Road, Tajmahal Road, and other surrounding areas.
Sabuj Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Mohammadpur police station, said: "People across the country are mourning over the tragic incident in Bailey Road. We have conducted drives in eateries and restaurants in different buildings in the Mohammadpur police station area to prevent such accidents.”
Mahfuzil Haque Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohammadpur police station, said they are looking into whether the eateries and restaurants in the area have proper approvals, whether gas cylinders are being used in safe places, and how durable their security system is.
Earlier in the day, the Nightingale View building in the capital’s Khilgaon area was sealed off due to fire safety risks. The building was sealed off at around 12pm on Tuesday.
The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) sealed off Sultan’s Dine and Nawabi Voj in Bailey Road.
Following the Bailey Road fire incident, which resulted in the deaths of 46 people, police and various agencies have started raids in different areas of Dhaka.
Along with the police, city corporations and Rajuk, are also conducting raids against unauthorized restaurants in the capital.
