Hunger strike: JU pro-AL teachers express solidarity with Chhatra League leader

The teachers of “Muktijuddher Chetana O Bangabandhur Adarshar Shikkhak Parishad” of  Jahangirnagar University have expressed solidarity with Chhatra League leader Enamul Haque Enam, who observing a hunger strike protesting the incident of drawing a graffiti over Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s portrait. 

The convener of the organization, Prof Dr Motahar Hossain and member secretary Prof Lutful Elahi appeared at Shaheed Minar and expressed solidarity around 1pm on Saturday. 

Prof Dr Motahar Hossain said: “We stand in solidarity with the hunger strike of the Chhatra League leader. We want punishment for the criminals who removed Bangabandhu's portrait.”

“It took two nights to draw graffiti over Bangabandhu's portrait. How come the university administration could not see the crime?”

Another member of the organization, Prof Sohel Ahmed said: “The vice-chancellor is the guardian of the university. Although two days have passed since the incident, I doubt whether the vice chancellor has spoken to others in the administration about this. Why did he take this matter so lightly?”

“It is clear who painted the graffiti here,” he added. 

Chhatra League leader Enam said: “I demand punishment of the teachers who are insulting Bangabandhu’s ideology in disguise.”

Jahangirnagar University student Enamul Haque Enam has started his hunger strike from 1pm on Thursday demanding justice for drawing graffiti over Bangabandhu’s portrait. 

Even after 54 hours, he continued his hunger strike.
