Largest shipment of cocaine in Bangladesh's history seized at Dhaka airport

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) on Wednesday night seized 8.3 kilograms of cocaine, the largest consignment seized in Bangladesh’s history, from the capital's Shahjalal International Airport.

A joint team of the Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and DNC arrested Namthendazo Tawera Soko, 35, a citizen of Malawi, a Southeast African country after she landed at the airport on a Qatar Airways flight. 

She arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with cocaine on Wednesday night. A room was booked in her name at Hotel Appord Inn in Uttara.

During an interrogation, Namthendazo Tawera said that a Nigerian citizen named Don Frankie and Bangladeshi Saiful Islam Roni and some others are involved in this cocaine trafficking ring. 

However, the APBn and the Narcotics Control Department are investigating detailed information regarding the arrival of the African woman in Dhaka.

Mohammad Ziaul Haque, additional superintendent of police Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn), confirmed the matter on Thursday. 

There was secret information to the team that an African national was carrying a consignment of cocaine. According to the information, the passenger was detained before immigration and cocaine was found during a search. 

Dewan Mohammad Zillur Rahman, inspector of the Narcotics Control Department filed a case with Airport police station at night. 

Namthendazo Tawera Soko, five other unnamed persons were made accused in the case.
