Attorney General AM Amin Uddin on Wednesday said the letter sent by 12 US senators to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the trial of Dr Muhammad Yunus is unfortunate.
"It is not appropriate to send such a letter to the prime minister as she does not belong to the judiciary. Dr Yunus was tried in an open court. There are scopes of appeal," he told newsmen at his office.
None should make such comments or give such reactions without knowing the trial process of a particular country, he added.
The attorney general further said the people or the organization talking about the trial from abroad are saying these things either having no knowledge about Bangladesh's judiciary or by getting influenced by someone else.
Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday said that the government in no way would interfere in the proceedings of the court.
He made the comment in response to the call of 12 US Senators to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for not harassing Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus.
When asked to comment on the issue the minister said that he was giving his reactions as the joint secretary of the ruling Awami League, not as the foreign minister.
Twelve US senators wrote a letter to the prime minister urging her to end, what they said was, "the persistent harassment" of Dr Yunus.
They also urged to end “the pattern of abusing the justice system to target critics of the government more broadly”.
