A Supreme Court lawyer and a motorcyclist have been killed in separate road crashes in Hatirjheel and Kakrail areas in the capital.
The deceased were identified as Mukhlesur Rahman, 75, an income tax lawyer of the Supreme Court, and the motorcycle rider Jasidul Miah Jahid, 24.
Mukhlesur Rahman and Jahid died after being hit by a bus and a private car at the Kakrail intersection and Kunipara area of Hatirjheel respectively on Wednesday.
Inspector Md Bacchu Miah of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) outpost confirmed the matter on Thursday morning.
Sofiz Uddin, sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station, said that Mukhlesur Rahman was injured critically being hit by a bus of “Victor Paribahan” in the Kakrail intersection area around 6:30pm.
Being rescued, he was taken to Kakrail Islami Bank Hospital.
As his condition was critical, he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctors pronounced him dead around 12am, said the police official.
Police seized the bus and detained the driver.
Besides, the body was handed over without an autopsy following a request of the family members.
Meanwhile, Jahid, a worker at an LPG automobile workshop, received a critical injury when a private car hit his motorcycle around 10pm.
Later, he was taken to DMCH where doctors declared him dead.
Besides, one of his friends was injured in the accident.
