Metro rail to extend operational hours from Uttara-Motijheel in December

The operational hours of the metro rail service from Uttara to Motijheel are slated to undergo an extension in December. 

Currently, this section operates from 7 am to 11 am, but the proposed changes will see an extension until 8 pm. 

Notably, MRT and Rapid Pass holders will enjoy an additional 30 minutes, allowing them to travel until 8:30 pm. As the metro rail system progresses, the number of stations is expected to increase.

On Tuesday, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited Company Secretary (Joint Secretary) Mohammad Abdur Rauf said: “Discussion is going on. Our target is to open the remaining stations by December and open the entire metro rail section from Uttara to Motijheel so that the citizens of the capital can travel comfortably from the new year.”

Stating that the time will increase if the metro rail is fully operational, he said, "Of course, we want the time to be extended if the metro rail is fully operational. It will continue till 8 pm. And those who have a pass can ride till 8:30.”

Mohammad Abdur Rauf said, "We have not decided yet when the city residents are going to get this facility by December. But we are trying our best to complete all the work by December. We expect full operation till Motijheel by the end of December or early January.”

Note that there are 16 metro rail stations from Uttara North to Motijheel. Out of this 12 stations have been commissioned. There are four more stations left to open. At present metro rail is running from Uttara to Motijheel from 7am to 11am. And from Uttara to Agargaon, the metro rail runs from 7am to 8:30pm. Metro rail’s weekly day off is Friday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the metro rail section from Uttara to Agargaon on December 28, 2022. On November 4, she inaugurated the Agargaon to Motijheel section.
