Ship anchores at Mongla with largest coal consignment

The Liberian flagship “MV Mana” anchored at Mongla port with a large consignment of coal for the first time last Sunday.

The authorities confirmed the arrival of the vessel on Saturday. This is the largest cargo carrying coal in the 72 years of the port's establishment.

Deputy Secretary of Mongla Port Authority Makruzzaman said: “Due to regular dredging in the outer anchorage of the port, deep draft ships can easily accommodate large consignments. A total of 60,500 metric tons of coal arrived on that foreign ship that arrived on November 5.

Some 31,500 metric tons of coal were discharged from the ship anchored in the fairway. After that, the ship anchored at port number 2 with the remaining 29,000 metric tons of coal. This foreign ship will leave the port after unloading the coal completely in a day or two,” he added.

Mahmudul Haque Raju, the representative of Sultan Shipping Lines, the local shipping agent of the ship “MV Mana”, said: “Coal was loaded directly from Bontang port in Indonesia on October 24. This coal is being unloaded through lighter ships and taken to a private company in Rupsa, Khulna.”
