Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Kazi Shahid Ahmed, publisher and editor of the now-defunct newspaper The Ajker Kagoj, founder of Gemcon Group and prominent sports organizer.
In a message of condolence, the minister said Kazi Shahid was one of the modern pioneers in the mass media. He will always be remembered for his outstanding role in the sports arena.
He also established the country's first organic tea garden and the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, he added.
The information minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Kazi Shahid died at a city hospital at the age of 82.
