Metro rail services were suspended for two hours on Wednesday, possibly due to a short circuit, officials have said.
The problem was caused by a technical fault in the Shewrapara-Agargaon section of the service.
The metro rail authorities have formed a probe committee over the incident.
Md Zakaria, additional project director (Electrical, Signal, Telecommunication, and Track) of the metro rail and joint secretary of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) said the probe committee will submit a report soon, and it will be possible to pinpoint the cause of the incident shortly.
“We have eight to ten sections (metro rail) from Diabari to Agargaon. Yesterday’s (Wednesday) problem was reported on the Shewrapara to Agargaon section. There was no electricity on the overhead cataract system,” he added.
Asked what could cause a short circuit on the metro rail line, he said: "If an object falls on a circuit or wire, it can cause a short circuit.”
The services were after 9:30am for about two hours on Wednesday.
During the disruption, large crowds of passengers were seen waiting outside all metro stations.
When the news spread on social media, the metro rail authorities gave an explanation and requested everyone not to spread confusion.
