Munshiganj trawler recovered, three still missing

A picnic trawler that had sunk after a collision with a sand-laden bulkhead in the Padma River in Munshiganj has been salvaged. 

No bodies were recovered at this time, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Assistant Director Obaidul Karim Khan said on Sunday afternoon.

Munshiganj Fire Service Senior Station Officer Abu Yusuf said: "Nobody was found while salvaging the trawler. Eight mobile phones, two bags, and a gold chain were found inside the trawler.

"During rescue operations, eight bodies have been recovered. Thirty-four people were rescued alive. Three children are still missing. The operation will continue till they are rescued,” he added.

On Saturday, a trawler carrying 46 passengers sank after being hit by a sand-laden bulkhead.

According to Louhajung Fire Service Station Officer Qais Ahmed, the incident took place at around 8:30pm.
