The Fire Service and Civil Defence resumed its rescue operation on Sunday morning as a trawler carrying 46 passengers sank in the branch river of Padma near Munshiganj last night.
The rescue operation was halted at around 2am due to the weather and strong currents in the river. The operation resumed around 7am on Sunday.
Anwarul Haque, assistant director of Dhaka Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters said the rescue operation has been resumed since morning. Eight bodies have been recovered so far, and five are missing.
Meanwhile, divers of the Bangladesh Navy have also joined the rescue operation since Sunday morning, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
On Saturday, a trawler carrying 46 passengers sank after being hit by a sand-laden bulkhead.
According to Louhajung Fire Service Station Officer Qais Ahmed, the incident took place at around 8:30pm.
