Three construction workers killed in Tongi wall collapse

Three construction workers were killed and two others were injured when a boundary wall collapsed during drain construction work in Gazipur's Tongi area on Saturday. 

The incident took place around 7:30pm near the Pagar Jhinu Market area in Tongi, confirmed Tongi Fire Service Senior Officer Iqbal Hasan.

The deceased were identified as Bakul, 35, Sultan, 50, and Sabuj, 35.

The injured workers, Nayan, 25, and Mahatab, 30, were rushed to Tongi's Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital. 

Mahatab, who was critically injured, has been referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment.

Iqbal Hasan said that around 30 workers were engaged in drain construction work in Gazipur City Corporation's Pagar Jhinu Market area. 

While the construction was ongoing, a four-storey building's boundary wall collapsed, resulting in the deaths of three workers and injuries to two others.

Upon receiving the news, rescue teams from the Tongi fire service arrived at the site. 

The team recovered the bodies and rescued the injured from the spot.

Tongi East police station Officer-in-Charge Ashraful Islam said that the police had inspected the incident site. 

Legal actions will be taken according to the complaints of the deceased and injured workers' families, he said.
