The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday decided to register two new political parties, the Bangladesh Nationalist Movement (BNM) and Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP).
Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam revealed the information to reporters after a meeting of the commission at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon.
According to the official, the EC decided to grant the two parties registration after verifying all of the data, as UNB reported.
A notification in this regard will be issued tomorrow, he added.
He said that by July 26, a notice will be published in the newspapers to find out if anyone has any objections to the registration. If any, the objections will be resolved through a hearing.
The 10 other political parties that were eliminated in the race are Gono Adhikar Parishad, Ab Party (Amar Bangladesh Party), Bangladesh Humanist Party (BHP), Nagorik Oikya, Bangladesh Sanatan Party, Bangladesh Labour Party, Bangladesh Minority Janata Party (BMJP), Bangladesh People's Party (BPP), Democratic Party, and Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party (BLDP).
The first registration system was introduced in 2008. Before the ninth parliamentary election, 126 parties applied, but only 39 met the conditions and received approval.
In May 2022, the EC invited new party registration applications, Despite providing a three-month period, there was no response, leading to an extension of the deadline until October.
During this period, a total of 93 new parties applied for registration. Of those, 87 applications were dropped during the initial selection process, and 12 parties survived until the end.
