Despite opposition from authorities, the Jamaat-e-Islami is resolute on holding a rally in Sylhet on Saturday.
Party officials said they had sought permission from the police, but it had not been granted thus far.
Nonetheless, several party leaders expressed their intention to proceed with the rally even if permission was not given.
Meanwhile, the party and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, claimed that the police detained seven of their activists early on Friday when they were visiting the ground in Sylhet where Jamaat's divisional meeting is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
Among the seven, five have been identified as Azizul Islam, 43, ASM Rubel, 23, Maruf Ahmad, 18, Abubakar Siddique, 58, and Saidul Islam, 38.
Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge Ali Mahmud said their political identity had yet to be confirmed. The police were interrogating them right now, he added.
