Law Minister: US delegation seeks probe into labour leader murder

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Thursday said that the visiting US delegation sought a proper investigation into the killing of labour leader Shahidul Islam.

The minister said this to journalists after a meeting with the delegation led by Under Secretary Uzra Zeya at the Secretariat in Dhaka.

The delegation also included US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Asia of the USAID, Anjali Kaur, among others.

Regarding the investigation into the killing of the labour leader, the law minister said: “I clearly told them that Bangladesh has no culture of impunity, justice is ensured upon investigation of any crime in Bangladesh now, and there will be no exception in this case either.”

The law minister also said: “No discussion on caretaker government happened as they didn't bring it up.”
