The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is set to initiate a special three-day anti-mosquito drive in 30 wards from Sunday to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes.
This decision was conveyed in a press release issued by the DSCC's public relations department on Saturday.
Prior to this, the DSCC had carried out a similar drive in 25 high-risk wards from July 4-6.
According to the release, 26 mosquito control workers will be deployed each day from Sunday to Tuesday. Thirteen of these workers will operate in the morning and the remaining 13 in the afternoon to conduct extensive mosquito eradication activities. Concurrently, special measures will be taken to eliminate the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes.
Ward councillors will arrange miking programs to raise public awareness about the issue.
The regional authorities will implement this action plan in coordination with the councillors.
The wards selected for the campaign are 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 19, 22, 23, 26, 30, 34, 36, 41, 44, 45, 49, 50, 51, 52, 54, 55, and 56.
These wards were identified as high-risk areas based on preliminary findings of the annual pre-monsoon survey report by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Aedes mosquitoes.
