Dhaka South to issue 5-year trade licence

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched a service that will now offer trade licences valid for five years to facilitate businesses, a significant change from the previous one-year validity period.

DSCC Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh announced it at the inauguration ceremony of the Trade Licence Service Booth of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) on Thursday afternoon.

The booth, set up in the auditorium of the DCCI building, will be in operation for two weeks.

Taposh said: "Streamlining businesses was a significant demand of our business community. Until now, businesses received new issue trade licences valid for one year and had to renew their licence annually. Many businessmen often used to forget or end up doing it at the end of the year. Under the new arrangement, they now can obtain a trade licence valid for five years, upon payment of an additional fee.

“To simplify the whole process, in accordance with the law and through a digital platform, we have initiated the issuance and renewal of five-year trade licences for the first time.”

Taposh mentioned that not only DCCI members, but any businessperson in Dhaka South can avail of the services related to their trade licence from the booth.

He further announced plans to gradually increase the number of one-stop service booths to reduce the hardship faced by businessmen.

This service will be available until July 20, excluding public holidays, said the organizers.
