Traffic has increased on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu bridge highway since Monday morning. However, there was no traffic jam anywhere.
Meanwhile, over 700 policemen are on duty in the Tangail section to keep the highway free of traffic.
According to the police and locals, although the number of long-distance vehicles has increased on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, there has been no traffic jam yet.
The number of passenger buses and private vehicles is increasing on the North Bengal-bound lane.
On the other hand, livestock trucks and passenger buses with empty seats are plying in the Dhaka-bound lane.
However, passing through Bangabandhu bridge, Dhaka-bound vehicles are plying through Gobindasi and Bhuapur bus stand via Bhuapur Link Road.
Police believed that the traffic pressure may increase from the afternoon.
On Eid, the 13-km North Bengal-bound traffic from Elenga to Bangabandhu Bridge is moving one-way.
Dhaka TribuneMeanwhile, Tangail Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin Haider and Superintendent of Police Sarkar Mohammad Qaiser are keeping an eye on the highway all the time to resolve the traffic jam. The highway environment is normal in their activities.
According to the Bangabandhu Bridge Authority, 29,857 vehicles have crossed over the Bangabandhu Bridge in 24 hours. As a result, the toll collected is Tk2,65,89,300. Besides, 14,881 North Bengal-bound vehicles cross over the bridge and the toll collected is Tk1,39,48,150. On the other hand, 14,976 Dhaka-bound vehicles crossed and the toll collected is Tk1,26,41,150.
In this regard, Superintendent of Police Sarkar Mohammad Qaiser said that despite the increase in traffic on the highway, there was no traffic jam anywhere. On Sunday night there was heavy traffic towards Dhaka. Various initiatives have been taken to decongest the highways.
“The highway is divided into two sectors. 27 motorcycle teams and 43 picket teams are on duty. Besides, seven wreckers are available. Policemen are working 24 hours a day. We are ready to face any situation. Hopefully, there will be no major traffic jam on the highway,” he added.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin Haider said: “This year, compared to previous years, extensive preparations have been made on the highway. I hope there will be no traffic jam on the highway this Eid.”
