Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing along Thakurgaon border

Members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead a Bangladeshi farmer near the border area in Thakurgaon's Ranishankail upazila on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Jinnat Ali, 55, son of Md Alam.

The shooting took place near the main pillar number 374/1 of Dharmagarh border around 2pm.

"BGB discussed the matter with the BSF, however, I am unable to provide further details at this time," Ranisankail police station Officer-in-Charge Gulfamul Islam said.

According to locals, Jinnat Ali and some others entered the Indian border near their house in the afternoon to cut grass. Later, they went to clean the grass in the Nagar River.

At one point, they got up from the river and went to the Bangladesh border area, the BSF members patrolling the Kukradah camp of the BSF battalion in North Dinajpur district of India opened fire on them. 

Jannat Ali was shot and fell to the ground. 

On hearing the news, the locals rescued him in critical condition and took him to Ranishankoil Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Jagdal Camp Commander Abdul Momin said: “A letter has been sent to the BSF calling for a flag meeting to protest against the killing of the Bangladeshi by shooting.”
