Budget FY24: Environment ministry gets 1,638C

In the national budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Tk1,639 crore has been allocated for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

The proposed allocation in the administrative (salaries, allowances, international contributions, incidentals, etc) sector is Tk788.23 crore, which is 48% of the total allocation.

The proposed allocation for the development sector is Tk851.32 crore, which is 52% of the total allocation. 

The revised budget allocation of the ministry in the outgoing 2022-23 fiscal year was Tk1,356 crore.

Out of this, the allocation for the management sector was some Tk720.63 crore and the allocation for the development sector was around Tk762.57 crore.

Compared to the revised budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year, the total allocation of this ministry in the 2023-24 fiscal year has been increased by Tk281.6077 crore, which is a 21% increase.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday made the announcement while unveiling a Tk7,61,785 crore proposed national budget for the 2023–24 fiscal year in the national parliament.

The minister also said that training and operational activities of the armed forces at home and abroad will be planned, controlled and coordinated. 

The proposed budget will be 15.2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Meanwhile, a ministry official, who did not wish to be named, said the allocation has not been satisfactory.
