Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday assured that the upcoming national elections would be conducted in a free and fair manner, similar to the recently held Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls.
Quader made the remark while addressing a protest march and rally organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League in front of Lutfar Tower at Madhya Badda protesting the threat against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by a BNP leader from Rajshahi.
"We are committed to conducting fair elections, and the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina have no concerns about the visa policies and restrictions imposed by external entities," Quader said.
He further emphasized that the party has already demonstrated its ability to hold fair elections, citing the Gazipur City Corporation polls as an exemplary case.
Quader expressed his confidence in the future national elections and the four upcoming city corporation elections, assuring the public that they will be conducted in a free and impartial manner. He also expressed his desire for the participation of all citizens in the electoral process.
Regarding the recent US visa policy, Quader remarked: "We have benefited from the US visa policy, and they have lodged complaints and threatened to impose a ban. But where is the ban? Those who engage in violence, bomb attacks, and vandalizm during elections will face the consequences under the visa policy. We remain steadfast in our principles and will continue our journey towards the elections."
Addressing the rivalry between Awami League and BNP, Quader said: "BNP has no adversary other than Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina is the most beloved leader of our nation, and she engages in politics to enhance the well-being of the people. She selflessly serves the country without considering her interests. Our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sleeps only three hours a day out of her commitment to the nation."
